Home trends for summer

Ocean breezes, afternoon naps and endless nights. There is so much inspiration that summer brings – especially for your home and family environment. In preparation for our favourite season, summer, we have selected a few of our favourite things to explore home trends for summer.

From fresh colours and furnishings to boho inspiration and comfort hacks, we share everything you should consider to make the best of the season and create the ultimate oasis right at home.

Bursts of colour

Lighter colour schemes will always revitalize a space and will instantly make it feel light and refreshing too.  One of the cheapest and most effective ways to easily transform a room in your home is with a fresh coat of paint.

Whether you go for soothing neutral colours or an over-the-top accent wall, a fresh coat of paint is always welcomed by the homeowner. Choose a colour that is stylish and will stay on-trend for many years to come.

White and neutral furnishings

Think of Santorini in Greece. White works for a reason in summer, and it is because of its powerful way to transform any space into an inviting space. An easy way to lighten up any room with a summer-inspired style is to switch out dark wood furniture and home finishes for fresh white options. This can be done with a simple whitewash or solid white paint job. If you have the budget, go for white painted wood furniture so your home feels lighter and brighter.

If all else fails, invest in some white throws to drape over dark wooden sofas and chairs, to give your room a bright boost. This way, any room in your home will also appear larger.

Designers also predict a shift toward spaces that go beyond just white. More natural-inspired wood cabinets, islands, and shelves are seen in showrooms — allowing homeowners to keep a bright and airy feel without restricting themselves to an all-white look.

Summer bedding

The first step to a cooler night starts with packing your comforters and winter bedding away. Instead of using bedding that traps heat, choose lighter options like a duvet or comforter that’s made from cotton, linen, silk, or bamboo.  These materials breathe much better and keep moisture away from your body, making it the perfect choice for hot, summer nights. Cotton is the most popular option for summer bedding, but bamboo and surprisingly, silk is more breathable.

If you want to do more than just change your bedding to get the ultimate summer feel – play with the idea of a canopy bed. According to expert designers, canopy beds no longer need to be draped in heavy fabrics and chunky headboards. Modern versions with lighter materials made with acrylic and metal are very trendy at the moment.

Boho inspiration

Macramé, indoor plants and crystals.  Bohemian-inspired décor is a trend that many people are enjoying currently. Bring the outdoors in with lots of plants – from potted and hanging plants to large indoor palms and delicious monsters, these all look great in living areas and bedrooms. Eclectic accessories with tassels and textured fabric are also a great addition if you are going for a boho style in your home. Add personality and a sense of free-spirited adventures in your home with accessories that evoke feelings of splendour and far-away lands.  Having said that, Morocco is still a huge inspiration for décor this season. We also love Moroccan lanterns and geometric stencils or tiles for summer homes.

Rattan and wicker furniture are also synonymous with Bohemian designs. This trend may take you back to your childhood, but the truth is, rattan and wicker furniture has made a comeback. Styled with an array of potted and hanging plants, rattan furniture is the perfect accessory for a space with bohemian influences. This is also a great option for kids rooms or cosy outdoor patios.
